Dowhas an exciting opportunity available within our Product Safety Research group that is part of our Toxicology and Environment Research & Consulting (TERC) Team. The location is inMidland, Michiganas this role is aligned to the laboratory where investigative research is conducted to ensure the sustainability of our chemistries. Specifically, we are looking for aPostdoctoral Candidatewith experience and training in toxicology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, or a related field. The postdoctoral candidate will work closely with TERC scientists in developing and applying state-of-the-art computational and/or in vitro toxicokinetic tools and conducting in vivo toxicokinetic studies to understand chemical Adsorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion (ADME) and develop toxicokinetic models.

About you and this role:

This is a laboratory-based position, and the successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in research projects in toxicokinetics, including in vivo studies, in vitro toxicokinetics (e.g., metabolism, plasma protein binding), and the application of in vitro and in vivo datasets to in silico toxicokinetic models using GastroPlus®. The candidate will collaborate with TERC’s current Toxicokinetics expert as well as TERC’s Predictive Toxicology team (e.g., cheminformatics) to incorporate toxicokinetic data on metabolite predictions and/or internal dosimetry to provide context for other non-animal methods (NAMs) data. Activities include experimental design, study conduct, interpretation of results, and evaluation of assay performance. The candidate is expected to present research findings at internal and external workshops/meetings and publish in prestigious peer-reviewed journals. The postdoctoral position at Dow is for one-year and the contract is renewable up to two years.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides science leadership and hands-on experience in conducting laboratory research studies to design, conduct and report in vivo toxicokinetic studies

  • Designs and conducts in vitro studies to examine toxicokinetic parameters of interest (e.g., intrinsic clearance, species comparative metabolism, plasma protein binding)

  • Performs toxicokinetic modeling using GastroPlus®

  • Works with Dow Toxicokinetic experts and other Dow team members for robust application of NAM data streams to screen for chemical hazards

  • Leads study team and leverages broader expertise to deliver high quality scientific results that are aligned with business and regulatory needs

  • Develops and implements technical solutions through hands-on experimentation/problem solving for the investigative research

  • Provides clear, concise communications both internally and externally including publications and presentations

  • Understands and follows appropriate EH&S standards, policies, and procedures applicable to their job. Leads by example in the area of safety behaviors and promotes safe work habits

Required qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Ph.D. is required. Fields in toxicology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry or a related field required

  • Experience conducting in vivo toxicokinetic studies, in vitro toxicokinetic parameter generation, and/or in silico toxicokinetic modeling

  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry and/or analytical chemistry
