Job Description

The NYC Law Department is accepting applications from experienced admitted attorneys for the position of Director of Legal Recruitment. The Director of Legal Recruitment works collaboratively with executive staff to support the mission of our agency by hiring attorneys committed to public service to provide excellent legal representation to the City of New York. The Director of Legal Recruitment manages the 5-person Legal Recruitment team and oversees the hiring process for all attorney, law student summer honors intern and semester extern candidates. To that end, the Director develops and provides structured interviewer training, reviews applications and interview evaluations, updates applicant tracking software, and conducts one of the agency’s final interviews. Further the Director of Legal Recruitment represents the office at events at law schools, bar associations and in other venues. Finally, the Director of Legal Recruitment on-boards new hires, counsels attorneys throughout their legal careers, manages the annual transfer application process, conducts attorney exit interviews, plans office events, authors reports, and undertakes special projects.

Qualifications

Applicants should have extensive experience in legal recruitment, preferably for a government entity, or in student advising at a law school. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a history of successful supervision and management of attorneys and support professionals to work as a team to meet common goals. Applicants should be team players who are flexible and adept at creative problem-solving. Applicants must be committed to the Law Department’s values of Excellence, Dedication, Respect, Professional Development, Integrity, Diversity, Supportive Work Environment, Teamwork, and Justice. Applicants must be admitted to the New York State bar.
